Let me kick off this blog with a polarizing question – Is Artificial Intelligence an artist? While many of you are screaming a vehement “No!” at the screen, let me counter it by saying – well, maybe.

Today, I want to talk about a subject that’s been causing quite a buzz in the techno-artistic circles: the integration of AI in the world of creative arts. C’mon, humor me here. This journey is going to be as exciting as waiting for the new iPhone release, sans the long lines and lighter wallets.


AI, Meet the Creative Arts

Artificial Intelligence has been playing around in ways we never thought it could. It’s like a kid in a candy store, testing out healthcare, finance, agriculture, and now, it’s knocking on the doors of our very perceptions of creativity and artistry. But how, right? AI doesn’t have feelings. It can’t appreciate a graceful ballet movement or the raw emotion in a Van Gogh piece.

Well, my friends, AI doesn’t necessarily need to “appreciate” art to create it.

But how does it work? Good ol’ fashioned algorithms, that’s how. Machine learning allows AI to analyze patterns, sequence aesthetics, and extract the decisive elements of what makes a piece of art, well, art. Armed with this knowledge, AI can then generate its own artworks, compositions, even scripts.

Take the example of ‘The Next Rembrandt’, where a deep learning algorithm analyzed 346 of Rembrandt’s paintings to come up with a unique and original piece of artwork that captured the style and technique of the great artist. It can generate ideas at the speed of light, leaving us with enough creative fuel to further shape and refine. It’s like having our very own personal muse, tirelessly inspiring and challenging us.

This collaboration between AI and human creativity has opened up an entirely new realm, what I fondly call “Enhanced Creativity”. It’s like your regular creativity but with an extra shot of espresso and an inspiring TED Talk.
